picture book

You might not have heard of Picture Book before, but Justin Faust‘s remix of their track “Sunshine” will get you curious enough to check them out. The duo from Manchester put out a four track EP featuring Grammy nominated vocalist Greta Svabo Bech just this past month. The first track, “Sunshine,” was lucky enough to be given Justin Faust’s funky touch. The remix is dreamy, melodic, disco and all around feel good.

If that remix put you in a groovy place, I highly suggest taking a listen to the rest of Picture Book’s debut EP At Last, which you can stream below.

Short for Gangsta Legendary Crisis, GLC is a Chicago-based rapper who’s been featured on two of Kanye West’s albums and today dropped his EP Fellowship and Congregate on T&A. Even though GLC is from the windy city, he’s got a flow that’s reminiscent of southern hip hop – laidback and effortlessly smooth.

The EP has pulled together a production group that bass dreams are made of. The title track and my favorite, “Fellowship and Congregate” is produced by Diplo’s audio engineer, Derek Allen, and has a little bit of a dubstep wobble and a seriously nasty beat. “Angry Birds,” produced by 1/2 of T&A DJ Ayres, cleverly samples the iPhone game by the same name while the lyrics draw a parallel between angry birds and well, angry women. The third track is produced by Nacey, hailing from the DC/Baltimore area and also my current place of residence. “I Can’t Honor That” is a laidback and piano tinged track that’s meant to be listened to while cruising down the street with the windows down and car stereo up. The final track produced by Lunice has a cascading synth line and quantifies GLC’s style of “ism,” which he describes as “an un-canny macking ability, vision and perspective on your life and how to grow and develop.”

The EP has already gotten the support of A-Trak who describes GLC as “the only rapper of this generation carrying the torch for what legends like the Geto Boys and Eightball & MJG did before him.” GLC is definitely giving the Chicago hip hop scene new recognition with this EP that’s produced to perfection. into the groove

Forget about her latest single “Girl’s Gone Wild” because Dimitri From Paris has given old school Madonna new life with his rework of “Into the Groove.” In 2007, the French producer opened for Madge on the Parisian leg of her tour and is also a self proclaimed fan of the pop icon. His admiration comes through on this track where he really brings out the chorus while preserving the synth lines and drums in the original track. It’s hard to listen to this song and not want to get into the groove and “step to the beat.”

Dimitri aptly dedicates this remix to “the ladies out there… and the boys who can admit they like it.”
